PageRank is a number between 0 and 10 assigned to and indicating the importance of web pages according to Google. It is one of the factors affecting website's ranks.

Google thinks that web pages which linked by several web pages, contains quality contents. For example if your website contains useful information or useful content, visitors will link to your website from their websites or forums. On the other hand if your website does not contains useful information, visitors will not suggest your website in anywhere. PageRank is assigned according to number of these links. The more links your website gets, the more your website's PageRank increases. If lots of web pages link to your website Google thinks that your website gives what visitors are looking for. So, Google give you high Pagerank and make your website listed before than the others. Shortly number of links given to a website increases its pagerank but it is not the only thing effecting pagerank. Basicly, pagerank is effected by:
Number of Links: As we said before, the more your website get linked, the higher pagerank your website gets.
Pageranks of Linking Pages: Pagerank values of a web pages that link to your website is important. Because effects of the links given from pages whose PageRank values are 3 and 5 is different. For example to get linked from one website which its pagerank is 5 better than those which its pagerank is 2.

• Add your website to web directories. Web directories categorize and give little information about websites. If you add your website to these web directories, they link to your website and increase your website's rank.
The biggest web directory and the most important source of pagerank (according to webmasters) is DMOZ Open Directory Project. Because ODP is completely human edited directory and a human evaluate websites quality better than computers, thus, search engines give more information to ODP than the others.
